Tagged, Yay! Sunshine Blogger Awards 11 Things....

I was so excited to be tagged by Kristin at Pugs and Pearls - Kristin tagged some bloggers with 11 questions and here are my answers (and bloggers I've tagged in turn at the bottom) - thank you Kristin for tagging me, it was super-fun putting this together!

1.     What habit are you most proud of?

This is a tricky one as I can’t answer ‘keeping my teeth really clean’ as it is too boring, although it’s the first thing that comes to mind! It’s probably one I kind of keep to myself, which is every time I walk the dog – through the lanes or on the beach I pick as much litter up as I can and put it in the bin – everything gets washed up where I live; from tiny pieces of plastic to cart parts. This week the miscellany has included part of an old stereo and a large cube of polystyrene that I lugged to the bin.

2.     What is the number one thing on your wish list, and why?

Health for myself and my family! My husband has had kidney stones on and off for years and it looks like it might finally get resolved next month (yay!) and I had a problem with my eyes (Iritits – an inflammation of the iris) for many weeks last summer which meant staying inside with the curtains closed for about 5 weeks (as my pupil was constantly massively dilated) and putting steroid eye drops in every hour. I don’t take health for granted and know the Iritis could appear again at any time (each time it does potentially deteriorating my eye health and eye sight) – so appreciate each healthy day that goes by and keep my fingers crossed and prayers ongoing to keep us all healthy!

3.     What is a compliment you've received recently?

My husband told me he loved me and told me one of the reasons was he thinks I have a ‘pure heart’. I am not sure if that is true but it was super-touching. I try my best to be well intended and live by a strong moral code so it meant a lot, from some one who matters a lot to me.

4.     What do you think is the hardest thing about blogging?

Knowing when to stop! I love reading everyone’s blogs and learning more about them and their lives everyday – I could read, comment and enjoy interacting with everyone literally all day (if I could!).

5.     Have you ever met anyone famous?

Oh wow – not probably people who are too exciting but I’ve ‘run into’ David Beckham on several occasions and was almost paralysed (he exudes sooo much charisma). Once just on the streets of Manchester when I was about 18 and he was surrounded by a gaggle of kids, once in Mango at the Trafford Centre while he was sat in the shoe section and Victoria was in the changing rooms – he was pushing Brooklyn back and forward in the stroller  and once in Selfridges in Manchester again. Phew, I get all hot and bothered thinking about it! The only other  ‘famous people’ are mostly politicians from when I worked in the European Parliament as a stagiaire (paid intern, scholarship based) and worked for a kind of trade association too in Brussels where I went to all sorts of summits, conferences and diplomatic events. A funny political one to add as well is that I met George Bush Senior, Laura Bush and Chuck Norris as a ‘leadership’ event at Texas A&M. Probably also some country music people at events at TAMU. I am chuckling to myself as I add these, as I imagine everyone else will have selfies with actual famous people haha! It will come to me after this that I once met Tom Cruise and forgot and I will kick myself.
Chuck Norris has to be the star turn at this event haha!
I can’t believe I kept these (I went into the garage and dragged out some boxes from 97 -98 and nearly got frostbite out there it is beyond cold!) and found this random stuff! I have no idea even if these country singers were famous! I enjoyed the two-stepping and the beer though.
Finally – probably the most famous person in the UK I have genuinely met personally is Dave Myers from the ‘Hairy Bikers’ (he is a famous TV Chef with a ton of books and DVDs, kitchen ware) – he is v funny and first lived 5 minutes down the road from me and then across the street from the hotel. I once drank home-made Romanian spirits with his wife at their house, with my Mum who was a good friend of his wife’s. I remember feeling quite tiddly afterwards and throwing stones at the bedroom window to ask my husband to open the door as I had forgotten my key.

 6.     What movie always makes your cry?

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas – I can’t even talk about it.

7.     What is your favorite thing about the age you are now?

Ooh, good one! Being confident being myself and being real. Knowing myself – who I am, who I’m not and what makes me happy – home, health and love. Knowing what is nonsense and meaningless.

8.     How far away do you live from where you were born?

10 minutes. And funnily enough some of my Great Great Grandparents are buried in the village churchyard 5 minutes away, some family owned a hotel just 5 minutes away – there is family history all around me and it’s as if I cant escape the pull. I had a high flying career but dropped it at a hat for the sense of home and belonging I get from living here, close to my family.

9.     Would you describe yourself as an introvert or extravert?

Both – I love people, I love to banter, to giggle, to mess about, to party, to dance. I am not scared of speaking out – especially in defence of others and what I believe to be right or what I am passionate about. However, I am still learning not to be camera shy and I love my own company and that of a book.

10.  NSYNC or Backstreet Boys?...98 Degrees?

This is a toughie as all US bands, but all were still big here (can’t remember 98 Degrees though) when I was at school and college. I didn't fancy any of them (I was super into Take That as a teen – and they are still HOT), but love the NSNYNC song ‘girlfriend’ and have some good memories linked to dancing to that in a Chicago bar (enough said!). When I first read these questions I had the only lines from a Backstreet Boys song in my head for the full week-end 'Backstreet's back alright and oh my God we're back again' - looping again and again in my head - drove me nuts haha!

11. What is your favorite question to ask someone when you are getting to know them?

I like to ask them about their pets! It is such a good leveller – I would never ask them ‘what do you do?’ or anything related to who someone knows / money or ‘achievements’ – I think self-depreciation in a humorous way is always fun – some sort of Mum jokes or how the weather makes your hair bad.

Here are the people I would LOVE to tag and find out more about! I would love to add more but hopefully some more tags will do the rounds!

1.Kristin at Going Country

2.Danielle at Sparkles and Lattes

Kristin sent some brilliant questions (only to be expected from someone super-creative!) – a hard act to follow! My new questions ladies are:

1.If you had 15 minutes in a super-market sweep to grab what you could, what would it be?

2.If you could invite 5 people to a diner party (can be from history), who would they be and why?

3. Describe your ideal party.

4.What is your favourite Christmas film?

5.If you could institute one global law what would it be?

6.If you could belt a tune out on karaoke better than the original artist what would it be and where would you sing it?

7. If you had to choose between living without make-up for a year or a smart phone for a year what would it be?

8.Who inspires you most in your day to day life?

9.If you could pick any epitaph for your life – what would you choose?

10. Who was your first famous crush on?

11. Do you have a hair or fashion faux-paux from the past you would like to obliterate with a magic wand, if so what would it be? Photos appreciated haha!

The rules of this tag are:

1. Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.

2. Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.

3. Nominate 5 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.

4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Oh you are so sweet! I will definitely play along, I needed a post for Wed or Thursday this week! This will be fun!

Oh man, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas- I have seen it once and I can't ever watch it again. I think it was important to view, but I'm with you, I can't talk about it.

Wishing health for your loved ones is a beautiful thing!
These are so great! I nodded my head along to so many of them. I love how you do your bit of good in the world by picking up garbage on your walks. :) I also completely agree with asking people about their pets - great idea. And, for what it's worth, I am insanely jealous that you've "run into" David Beckham! Haha. Thank you for tagging me! I'll work on these questions tonight!
Yay! I was so looking forward to reading your answers! I was especially interested in the question you like to ask people-because I'm always looking for things to keep in my back pocket when I need to make small talk. The pet question is great! People love talking about their pets.
I also really wanted to hear what habit you are proud of. So many people get stuck on what they need to work on, and I think we need to be proud of what we do get right!
This is actually going to require me to think about the answers. And that means it might take a bit for me to actually summon the brain power to do such a thing. If the baby cooperates and sleeps longer than a couple of hours, that would be helpful. I'll get to it sometime, though. Thanks for thinking of me!
Joanne, you are SO SWEET to nominate me!! I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back with you... it's been a busy couple of weeks! I'm going to talk about this in my post tomorrow and I'm really excited!! I'm so glad we connected!
